Veikko: The Backpack - Slim

Backpack has lately became a fashionable thing to carry behind your shoulder, it is functional as well as stylish.

I was recently commissioned to create one. Unlike the hybrid Messenger/Backpack I made a while back, the request was to create a more traditional looking backpack.

During my research I stumbled upon traditional Japanese Backpack which is called 'Randoseru'. The styling really resonate with me and decided to use this as an inspiration. Traditional 'Randoseru' was designed to carry a full day's worth of student's items hence the need for the large space. The client however demanded a slimmer version to make it more wearable as well as versatility with different outfit.

Kimmi: Redesign

As the title suggest, I have recently made some slight adjustment in Kimmi bag.

I felt that the double closure does not give the right balance for the bag. A single centre closure was selected instead. By having only single closure also makes the bag easier to open and close.

The result is a much more simpler looking bag with better proportion.

New colours

Over the past few months I've been experimenting with coloured veg-tan leather. After few trials and purchases from different supplier, I'm happy to say that I have found such leathers.

My criteria is simple, high quality. Smooth and supple 'hand', burnished flesh side, rich aroma are some of the characteristic of such leather.

When crafting bags with these coloured leather, special consideration needs to be given in regards to finishing the edge. There are two ways of finishing edges, coating with special paint or hand burnished. I have opted for hand burnished method. I believe this is the only way to finish bags made of vegetable tanned leather. The end result provides rich and three dimensional looking edge that cannot be replicated by just simply painting it.

For now I have chosen Dark Chocolate and Cognac colour to compliment the existing natural veg-tan. There will be more colour coming, I'm still trialling them and will release it once I'm happy with them.

Olki is our take on the classic briefcase. As per our previous design, it emphasise on minimalistic approach.

As per Kimmi, it is entirely handcrafted from Scandinavian vegetable-tanned hides, linen thread and solid aluminium rivets.

With generous space to fit slim 13" laptop plus A4 size documents, it's the perfect companion for business and leisure.

Blog posts

We are currently in the process of moving house and this new activity has taken it's toll on the frequency of the blog post. I'm happy to say that the new place will have a separate garage/workshop which will better accomodate the leather-crafting, this means that I can keep working throughout the night without waking up everyone in the house.

We will also carry out minor renovation around the new place which will be infused with leather elements. Hopefully this will enabled us to look at venturing into an exciting area of leather accessory.

If you are a frequent reader of this blog, thank you and we are still here. We will post something new and exciting very soon.

Kimmi: The classic Satchel

Kimmi is our portrayal of the classic leather satchel. Its design and construction is heavily influenced by minimalist theme.

Entirely handcrafted from natural Scandinavian vegetable-tanned hides, linen thread and aluminium rivet. The colder climate of Scandinavian country and teamed with industry's best tanning practice, the hides has an exceptionally luxurious feel that will get better with age.

As per all our Signature line, it is constructed with 3.5mm /10 oz leather that provides the perfect foundation for the distinctive structure.

The bag is envisioned with urban excursion as its natural environment. Single undivided internal space provides plenty of space for everyday neccesities, be it a laptop, books, tablet, notebook, lunch box, Digital SLR and anything else in between.

Kimmi is distinctively simple.
